Reboot

We've all had our share of time with computers, and these amazing machines can certainly add value to our lives. But chances are, you've also had your fair share of frustrations as well. Once in a while, a computer will get bogged down, slowing to an agonizing pace. We stare at the screen, waiting for it to do sometime useful--and we wonder if it has become more of a liability than an asset! The solution is to reboot it and let it start fresh, so it will work as intended and allow us to be productive once again.

The same is true for believers. We often find ourselves in unhealthy patterns and "busy work" which we've inherited from tradition. Many times we end up doing things that don't really count for eternity. The solution is to get back to the basics and "reboot" using the Scriptures as our textbook and the Holy Spirit as our teacher, and start giving priority what Jesus has commanded us to do.

Reboot is a method of making disciples which is designed especially for believers who have been involved in established churches. This method is similar to Training Faithful Trainers (TFT), but assumes participants have some background understanding of the Bible. Reboot is built upon AIM, and in each session we take time for building accountability to one another, growing in intimacy with God, and preparing for multiplication of the Kingdom. See the AIM Chart (A4 or Letter) which illustrates how this is done. Training groups meet every two weeks for a 2-3 hour session over a period of 15 weeks (8 sessions).

The Reboot process has three immediate goals:

  1. To develop a lifestyle of obedience to Jesus, giving highest priority to the Great Commission. God's heartbeat for the world is to reach those who do not know Him! Reboot is designed to remind believers of the urgency of the gospel while bringing them into accountability to share their faith with lost people regularly.

  2. To unlearn and relearn the foundational truths of Christian faith. Even the most well-meaning believers have misconceptions and blind spots about Christianity and the church. If you have been exposed to "inherited" forms, you must unlearn and relearn many things! The purpose of Reboot is not to gripe about what anyone is doing wrong, but to learn and do what is right.

  3. To model dynamically the New Testament church. Reboot is not merely a training course about learning information. We will "do" church amongst ourselves and put everything we learn into practise immediately.

These immediate goals provide the basis for our broader objective: to foster a nationwide church planting movement which will give every person an opportunity to know Jesus in the present generation.

In spite of its youth, Reboot is proving to have incredible value. We are observing that each week, every person is participating, praying, and sharing his or her faith with lost people. Each has a growing sense of awareness of the lostness around them, and participants are becoming more and more bold as we hold high the bar of accountability to obey the Great Commission. Each person is being trained not only to share the Gospel but to train them as disciples who will train others as well.
